Photovoltaic cells in solar panels convert sunlight into direct current to produce energy (DC). Through the use of an inverter, the solar panels subsequently convert the DC energy into alternating current (AC) electricity. Then, the AC electricity is dispersed throughout the house as needed. Any surplus energy is returned to the power grid.
